Quotes from the novel:

'Ninety-six indentical twins working ninety-six indentical machines."

In the world of A brave new world, some people are created with the sole purpose of doing work the 'smarter' people dont want to do. For these 96 twins there is no individuality at all amongst them.

' "We also predestine and condition. We decant our babies as socialized human beings, as Alphas, or Epsilons, as future sewage workers or future..." He was going to say "future World Controllers," but corrected himsef, and said "future Directors of Hatcheries," instead. "And that," continued the Director sentensiously, "that is the secret of happiness and virtue -- liking what you've got to do. All conditioning aims at that: making people like their unescapable social destiny." '

Here it becomes clear that the most powerful people control the way the society works. They condition groups of people so that they will eventually like what they do. This makes for a completely unoriginal world with unoriginal people. There is no individuality at all.

' "And now," the Director shouted, "now we proceed to rub in the lesson with a mild electric shock." '

This quote describes a severe case of conditioning, a way of influence. By shocking the babies after they were handed flowers and books, the babies would learn that books and flowers make bad things happen. Therefore they would subconsciously start to hate books and flowers.

' "Stability. No civilization without social stability. No social stability without individual stability." '

This quote explains the thoughts behind the social system described in A brave new world. If there is no individual stability there won't be social stability. This is the reason why there is so much indoctrination and conditioning. To make sure there is individual stability, which the entire world is build on in A brave new world.

"Alpha children wear grey. They work much harder than we do, because they're so frightfully clever. I'm awfully glad I'm a Beta, because I don't work so hard. And then we are much better than the Gammas and Deltas. Gammas are stupid. They all wear green, and Delta children wear khaki. Oh no, I don't want to play with Delta children. And Epsilons are still worse. They're too stupid to be able to read or write. Besides they wear black, which is such a beastly colour. I'm so glad I'm a Beta."

An example of sleep teaching in A brave new world. Looking at this quote you can see how normal it is in the world of A brave new world to indoctrinate. The people that are subjected to these sleep teachings probably don't agree with what they are being taught at first, but after listening to this again and again they slowly start to believe it themselves. This is a good example of indoctrination.
