In the world today...
I think that the social issues that are prevalent in Huxley's A brave new world are not very applicable to the way our society works. Individuality seems to be talked about more than ever. With all of the social movements of today, for example the LGBTQ movement, people are becoming more and more aware how important it is to accept each others differences. However, the technological issues mentioned by Huxley’s A brave new world might be more relevant now than before. With modern technology a lot of things, that people could not even think off in the 30’s, are becoming reality. For example smartphones. In today's day and age it is almost unthinkable for someone to not have a smartphone, it has become a social norm. According to some people, this may lead to people becoming less social than before. I, however, think that it leads to the contrary. With all of the different types of social media available, it is almost impossible to become completely disconnected from society. Another issue described in A brave new world is that in the future everything will become autonomous. I think that this has indeed happened to a certain extent, but it is nowhere near as bad as in A brave new world. In the world today we would never even think off making human offspring an autonomous process. To conclude, I think that the issues described in Huxley’s A brave new world are not prevalent in our world today.
